We had a special visitor to our farm recently – a very large, hungry-looking Sea Eagle. Luckily I don’t think they eat mussels (or mussel farmers).
This year’s mussels are coming on well… our ropes have been out for just 8 weeks.
Ever wondered how mussels are harvested? Once the mussels have matured, we can pull our ropes through special machinery that strips off the mussels before grading them. We can then catch smaller mussels and restock them for next season. All this is done aboard a large boat or on custom made barges.
